Reflection on Lesson taken on 15th November, 2021.

I taught my English lesson in Class PP A. Topic that I covered on 15th November is on article (a and an). I taught the lesson using Power Point Presentation (PPT).

Usually, the main activities of the day are done after morning circle time (greeting, writing the date, weather recognition, taking attendance and start the lesson with mind training.)

Although it was a new concept about article. But I know the students very well. I planned my lesson according to them. With the help of ICT.I presented short video, all activities on power point presentation within short time every child could participate in group discussion and make my lesson lively.

The first activity was asking some questions about articles and watching video on articles. Based on my knowledge of the classes about the new topic that is articles I decided to let them watch short video on the very topic for two minutes very carefully. Based on the video asked them few questions

 1) What is article?

2) What are the articles?

 3) How many vowels are there, what are they? etc.

Children will watch the video on articles and identify what is articles “a and an.” If they can’t answer, they will discuss within their group member and share their ideas, gather information and help each other, ask their partners or just look at the slide shown on the white board. I instructed the activity direction to them by explaining what they were supposed to do.

Lesson activity went very efficient as there was an active and full class participation from the children side. Within a short period, almost all children could carry out the given activity individually.    Most of the children participate to answer and made the class very interesting and lively. I asked few questions, what is consonant? What are vowels? How many alphabets are there? As I run down the lesson through power point presentation. And the most interesting part of my lesson was active participation from children in the class and make the class joyful. In a way learning take places.

By reflecting the previous lesson and comment made by my colleague I have used different teaching strategy, plan as per the need of the level of children. But it is very important to have second plan at the back of our mind. If the first plan doesn’t go. The second plan works much better. In this way children learn much better and understand concept.

Though it was good and well-organized class. But there are some rooms where we need some lights so that it will glom the blub very bright. Focusing on the short and precise instruction for Pre-Primary children (Class PP). Given instructions were clear but very lengthen for lower children. Speaking full sentences is important. Incomplete sentences may hamper the children language in future. Accepting incomplete sentences may lead to nowhere. Encourage children to speak in full sentences.

Reflection on Lesson taken on 20th October, 2021.

I taught Mathematics lesson on topic ‘Data and Probability’ on October 20, 2021 to Class PP A. The sub topic was on Bar graph using Power Point Presentation (PPT). As usual, the main activities of the day were done after their circle time (greeting, writing the date and weather recognition). Although it was a new topic for the students, I pre-planned well and executed the lesson smoothly.

The lesson began with asking questions to the students on concept, meaning of bar graph and after that I showed them educational video on bar graphs for one to two minutes.  After showing the educational video, lesson continued with follow up questions on the video lesson topic. I asked those questions like what is graph, how many children liked an apple, etc. Students were made to study the graph shown on the whiteboard through the PPT slide and were asked to identify each result. If they didn’t know the answer, they were made to asked their sitting partners or just study the slide shown on the white board. After that they were made to identify the children’s favorite fruit that appears on the PPT slide.

My original plan was not going as per my planning. Firstly, the topic was very new to students and secondly all four groups could not perform well. Among four groups, two groups needed more attention and I had to make some changes for them. I paired the children and work with one pair at the time. That seemed to be turned effective. I try to paired students according to various student abilities. This worked well because mixing of different able students could lead to effective learning among the students.

Students were instructed to plot a graph. Having been working with these students for almost a year, I knew very well about their abilities. I knew that some of the children would have spent hard time getting all the new concepts about the topic, recognizing and remembering new words.

Although class was well-organized, there were still some rooms for improvement. There is need for short and precise instruction for Pre-Primary children (Class PP). Instructions seem to be lengthy for lower class students. I also felt speaking full sentences in both the language is important. Incomplete sentences may hamper the children’s future of learning languages. There is need for encouragement to children to speak in full sentences in the class.

Class participation was appreciated and activities were interesting as it was to the level of the students. All students were engaged and enjoyed doing class activity like coloring and writing numbers with pictorial form. Lesson closure was interesting as all the questions were distributed equally among the groups based on equal gender. Sample activities.

Reflection on Lesson taken on September 13, 2021

To be a teacher in one’s life is a great achievement which is hardly realized. However, to be a good teacher is a great challenge in life.

I taught a lesson on topic “Consonant Vowel Consonant” - (CVC words) using Power Point Presentation (PPT) to my class on September 13, 2021. Although it was a new lesson for children in pre-primary, I could efficiently complete teaching the topic within time frame through use of PPT. Moreover, I could feel my students were curious to learn new lesson when I teach using PPT slides. This is all due to the comments made in previous lesson reflection by providing clear-cut instructions and allocating more time on activity. Teaching through PPT not only helped me to gain children’s attention but I could also complete my task on time.

What lesson went well?

As usual I began my class with short meditation and started with introduction of day’s lesson topic.

Lesson introduction went very smoothly as there was an active full class participation. Most of the students volunteered to answer and made the class lively. I asked them a few questions like, what is blending, how words are blend together and why blending, etc. Then I run down the lesson through power point presentation. Most interesting part of my lesson was the active participation shown by the academically challenged students in the class.

By recalling my previous feedback on student’s activity, I provided my students with clear instructions and reminded them about completing the class activity on time. All activities were assigned in group as collaborative learning among children helps in improving their communication skills.

Individual activities were provided in their class forum (WeChat group) and were asked to submit online. Response from the student’s parents were encouraging as most of them expressed that online learning prove to be very informative and effective as most of their children explore online sources for learning. Moreover, parents also suggested about assigning similar activities in subsequent days as online learning helped their children to meaningfully engage by incorporating the use of ICT.

What lesson did not go well?

All in all, there was not much issue with the teaching of lesson on that day. However few students moved and were disturbing other children in doing their work. Teacher has to time and again remind them about their movement in the class as that it does not disturb other student in the class. So, in the next lesson I will prepare more activities to engage children as to reduce the movement in the class.

Action to be taken.

Based on my observation, few actions need to be considered. One is the suggestion from parents about providing more activities to engage their children. The other was regarding inclusion of more pictorial activity in the PPT teaching slides

I conclude that student’s learning should be more integrated with the use of ICT in the classroom. Therefore, it is a teacher’s moral responsibility to keep updated ourselves with advancing technology in this digitalized 21st century.

Lesson Reflection for the month of August

Teachers are very powerful, to make the best of human quality or the worst of humanity as it all depends on teacher. Students on other hand are the just mere puppets in the hands of a teacher.

Everything changes with the time. With the advancement of rapid technology, our world today has become more digitalized and it has become equally important for us to keep updated with the rapid changing digitalized society. The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into school curriculums has become so important nowadays to empower our school children to search for the information they required and allow them to organize what they have found. Children becomes increasingly responsible for their own learning as they progresses through the school system. Therefore, better integration of our children learning with ICT in the school curriculum is very crucial to produce a computer literate and independent learners in this 21st century.

I taught a lesson on topic “Pattern” using Power Point Presentation (PPT) to my class on August 13, 2021. Although it was a new lesson topic, I could complete the topic very efficiently teaching through use of PPT. Moreover, I could feel my student’s enthusiasm and their curiosity while I was running through the teaching slides. Also, teaching with PPT helped me to have more student attention in the class.

 What lesson went well?

As normal class started with mind training and introducing the day’s Topic.

Lesson’s introduction part went very effectively as there was an active class participation from all the students. Most of the students volunteered to answer any types of questions being thrown at them. I asked them a few questions like, what is pattern, what is pattern core, etc. I also showed a short video lesson on pattern core and it helped my students to better understand the concept in the classroom teaching. Most interesting part of my lesson was interest shown by academically challenged students by taking part in class group discussion and their active participation in the class activity related to the lesson topic.

For the activity part, students were provided with group task and followed by individual assignment. Making students to work in groups helped them to develop a better sense of cooperation and a team work. Moreover, letting them collaboratively learn each other helped them to generate new ideas and produce better outcomes in the classroom learning. Additionally, collaborative learning among students also helped them in improving their communication skills.

What lesson did not go well?

Overall, there was not much issue with the teaching of new lesson topic on that day. There was good class participation from all with each students sharing their ideas to the class. However, teacher has to timely remind student of their movement in the class so as to not to disturb other group of students who were doing their class task.

There were some few issues like completion of group task on time among students. Few groups of students could complete their task earlier than other groups and they were made to engage in extended activity assigned by their teacher.

 Action to be taken.

Based on my observation, few actions that are required are:

·         Teacher need to provide the instructions clearly at the beginning of the activity.

·         Need to be provided with the real objects.

·         Need to sort out time for class activity.

·         Understanding learners learning ability to carry out the task within the given time.

In conclusion, students learning should be more integrated with the use of ICT in the classroom. Therefore, it is a teacher’s moral responsibility to keep updated ourselves with advancing technology in this 21st century digitalized world.

Reflection on ICT integrated lesson.

 Reflection on ICT integrated lesson.

The world we live in is a result of constant change and we never know what might be there next. Look at what has happened with present situation (Covid-19).

With most of the world in lockdown, due to the pandemic, people are working from home if they can, students are learning from home in an online format, and parents are picking up the slack from teachers and supporting their children.

This unprecedented event has changed the world and has brought it into a new era - the time of online learning for all people.

It was not until later on in my teaching career that the term Information and Communication Technology (ICT) materialized before me and opened my eyes to what this meant in education. The term ICT simplified means any technology that has to do with information and communication.

Today, in the 21st Century, all most all are well equipped with the newest technologies that flows in and around their surroundings. The inception of technologies is growing at the fastest rate in every aspect of life. Moreover, a huge flow of information is emerging in all fields throughout the world. Now information and technology are popularly using in educational field for making teaching learning process successful and interesting for both the students and teachers. And here presents some of the core roles that ICT plays in daily teaching and learning processes.

Roles of ICT

·         ICT helps teachers to interact with students.

·         It helps in preparing teaching and provide feedback.

·         It also helps to improve teaching skills.

·         It replaces the ancient teaching methodologies.

·         ICT act as an “assisting tool” for making assignments, communicating, collecting data & documentation, evaluation and conducting research.

·         ICT help store educational information safely.

·         ICT is a medium for teaching and learning which teachers can teach and learners can learn etc…

For those above fundamental reasons, I have using ICT based resources like projector, laptop and sound systems to present slide shows, videos and other short clips that are related to my teaching subject.

Reflecting our own teaching with ICT plays a very important part in the development of student ICT capability throughout the integration of ICT in the curriculum. However, for teachers, it is all about taking responsibility for the use of ICT in the classroom and their professional growth.

My Reflection on Teaching

v  We  can do regular evaluation and the approaches to teaching and learning.

v  Understand more about children how they are doing and providing feedbacks on time.

v  Positive impacts of high-quality effective pedagogies on children’s learning

v  Become more aware of the importance of high-quality interactions, including strategic intervention and substantive conversations to maximize children’s learning

v  Use action research approaches — e.g. drawing on alternative teaching strategies to help
children to learn when familiar methods fail

v  Co-construct learning with children and other partners so it is responsive to the child’s family and community.

It is important that teachers do reflect on their teaching and take the appropriate steps to improve them. These teaching strategies for the classroom can help to go a long way in ensuring that outcomes are learned by students by determining which parts of the lesson went well and which ones were less successful. From here, they can make adjustments and plan for better lessons accordingly to achieve our lesson objectives.

Clarifying existing ideas about teaching helps to get new ideas or modify old ones. A powerful reflection involves carrying out action research. That is the approach where teachers are required to take a more rigorous look at the quality of their teaching and learning.

After judgments, evidence such as the following in relation to classroom activity needs to be taken into account:

  • Lesson plans and schemes of work.
  • Comments from observing teachers.
  • A diary of classroom activity.
  • The results of students’ class and homework and.
  • The results of examinations.

So, in my next lesson I will include shot video clips, more photos.
